They Die / Post Punk | Italy

Press review
-They Die's 2024 LP, "Black Magic", released by Swiss Dark Nights - and the record deservedly earned its place in Kollektíva's twelfth list of favourite darkwave albums of 2024! (Kollettiva)
-The great masters of the Italian dark/goth scene, They Die, have opened 2024 with an LP shining like a dark diamond, 'Black Magic’. "Black Magic" offers the right song for every dark moment and thought: daydream, anxiety, passionate fight against demons, ecstasy and ultimate catharsis. (Kollettiva)
-This album is a series of direct and challenging hits: how to get the dance floor moving without denying a certain electric identity? Even the club version of 'Our blood' is as fun as you could wish for. No third wheel of the wagon then, 'Black Magic' is a solid work, of its time, but which refuses to dilute its darkness, it blazes in the darkness; I'm a fan! (Guts of Darkness)
-The album features a perfect blend of somber guitar riffs and melodic synth arrangements, creating a hauntingly beautiful soundscape. The vocals are deep and possessed, adding to the overall sense of despair. This album
includes several standout tracks that reaffirm the band’s remarkable talent. (Side Line Reviews)
“-Our Blood” concludes in a ‘danceable’ mode – but in the darkest of nights – an album that we like. (Versacrum)
They Die show that they are among those who have the ability, intelligence and will necessary to succeed in the enterprise, and from here on it will be extremely interesting to see how far they want to go in this highly appreciable idea of renewal. (Darkroom Magazine)
-They Die are unmatched in the contemporary goth/wave scene with passionate, dark anthems like the synth-driven "Call My Name", specifically optimized for the dance floor of a dark underground club. (Kollettiva)
-If there’s a more perfect goth album released in 2024, I’ll eat Carl McCoy’s hat. (The Goth/Post-Punk Revival Blog)
-A record that certainly confirms They Die as one of the leading groups of the new Italian dark scene. (Rosa Selvaggia)
-The great quality of the Italians remains their sense of melody, especially in the very catchy guitar lines, sometimes directly experimenting with a cold deathrock. (Guts of Darkness)
-The trio has managed to build a strong, precise and surprising sound, enhancing the best of what the masters of Gothic Rock and Darkwave taught in the 80s, but without forgetting to highlight such learnings with modern and crystalline nuances, to speak both to the old inhabitants of our musical cave and to the new ones. (The Atmosphere)

They Die is a darkwave duo born in 2020, based in Italy, with a minimal sound between
postpunk, darkwave, goth and batcave that propose the sounds of the dawn of the genre,
in the early eighties, revisited in a contemporary key.

They Die was formed in 2020, during one of the darkest chapters of recent history. Their name is not a mere exercise in macabre aesthetics, but a direct and brutal testimony to the
reality of those days. Born in the depths of lockdown, the band translated the sense of siege and the fragility of life into music while the world around them seemed to fade out. From that
collective trauma emerged a creative spark aimed at transforming pain into visceral post-punk.

After debuting with Deviant Love (2021) and consolidating their international identity with the
acclaimed Emptiness Prevails (2022) under the Swiss Dark Nights label, the band embarked on a path of constant sonic refinement. Moving through the esoteric atmospheres of Black
Magic (2024), They Die defined a signature sound characterized by sharp guitars, obsessive synths, and a baritone voice capable of evoking ghosts of the past with modern force.

2025 saw the release of a live-in-studio "best of" titled Darkroom Session. However, 2026 marks the pinnacle of this evolution with their latest album, Smoke and Mirrors. The record explores themes of illusion, perception, and deception, navigating between tight rhythms and the melodic openings typical of the finest electronic-tinged Gothic Rock. It is the work of full artistic
maturity, confirming the solidity of the band’s vision. They Die do not celebrate the end; they document it through the elegance of darkness. From the days of silence in 2020 to the strobe lights of "Smoke and Mirrors," the journey continues.
